Zero C

Third training for a Zero Carbon Future in Maritime Transport and Logistics

On December 5-6, 2024, the Hamburg University of Technology served as a hub of innovation and learning, hosting a dynamic capacity-building event as part of the Zero C Project, funded by the European Union. This impactful training gathered teaching staff from Western Balkan Higher Education Institutions, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive the transition to a zero-carbon maritime transport and logistics society.

A Focus on Sustainability and Innovation

The two-day training featured an intensive program aimed at enhancing participants’ expertise in key areas critical to sustainable maritime operations. Sessions were designed to address the pressing need for decarbonization and energy efficiency, covering topics such as:

✅ Improved Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization in Port Operations: Exploring strategies to minimize carbon emissions and maximize efficiency in port logistics.

✅ Maritime Logistics Simulations Using AnyLogic: Leveraging advanced simulation tools to model and optimize maritime logistics processes.

✅ Advanced Strategies for Port Call Optimization and Slot Booking Systems: Introducing cutting-edge solutions to streamline operations and reduce environmental impact.

Hands-On Learning for Practical Impact

In addition to theoretical discussions, the training emphasized practical application. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, deepening their understanding of the tools and strategies discussed. This practical approach ensured that educators could translate their learning into actionable knowledge, empowering them to inspire future professionals in maritime transport and logistics.

Building Capacity for a Sustainable Future

This event marked a significant milestone in the journey toward sustainable and energy-efficient maritime solutions. By equipping academic with advanced knowledge and practical skills, the training aimed to create ripple effects, fostering a new generation of experts ready to lead the charge for decarbonization in the maritime industry.

The Zero C Project continues to demonstrate the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing the global challenge of climate change. As we move closer to a zero-carbon future, initiatives like this are crucial in shaping a sustainable and resilient maritime transport ecosystem.
