Zero C Project Consortium Meeting

From October 3-4, 2024, the Zero C Consortium came together for a pivotal meeting at the NTUA Library & Information Center in Athens, Greece. This two-day event brought together all the team members to assess the progress and future direction of the project aimed at decarbonizing maritime transport in the Western Balkans.

Day 1 Highlights – October 3, 2024

The meeting kicked off with a warm welcome from NTUA, followed by discussions on the progress and challenges of key work packages:

  • WP 1 focused on Project Management and Quality Assurance, led by UAMD, reviewing the status of project implementation and addressing operational challenges.
  • WP 2 concentrated on the Development of Skills-Oriented Curricula, spearheaded by UOM, assessing the progress of curriculum development in maritime decarbonization and logistics.
  • WP 3, led by NTUA, reviewed the Capacity Building efforts, highlighting staff training and the installation of new maritime simulators, essential for hands-on learning.
  • WP 4, overseen by ITS, addressed the project’s Impact and Dissemination, focusing on outreach efforts to engage stakeholders and maritime professionals in the transition to sustainable shipping practices.

The day concluded with a relaxing city center visit and dinner, fostering collaboration and camaraderie among participants.

Day 2 Highlights – October 4, 2024

Day 2 started with a recap of the first day’s discussions and moved into preparing for the project’s Mid-term Review, an essential step in evaluating overall performance.

Key meetings held included:

  • Project Management Board Meeting
  • Project Quality Assurance Board Meeting

Both sessions highlighted the importance of maintaining high-quality outputs while keeping the project’s goals on track. The day wrapped up with a final discussion on the meeting’s outcomes and evaluation, setting the stage for the next phase of the Zero C project.

The consortium meeting was a significant success, solidifying Zero C’s path towards creating zero-carbon maritime transport and logistics. Through collaborative efforts, the project is well on its way to achieving its ambitious goals, promoting energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainable logistics solutions in the maritime industry.
